Welcome to the Golden Chippy, a charming eatery nestled in the heart of Greenwich, London. Located at 62 Greenwich High Rd, this establishment offers a delightful selection of classic British fish and chips, along with a variety of other delicious fare. With its warm and welcoming atmosphere, Golden Chippy provides not just a meal, but a memorable dining experience.

As I stepped into Golden Chippy, I was immediately struck by the friendly ambiance and the enticing aroma of freshly cooked fish wafting through the air. The menu boasts a delightful array of seafood options, including cod, haddock, and even skate, all perfectly battered and fried to golden perfection. One standout dish that left a lasting impression was the haddock: crispy on the outside and flaky within, it was a true testament to what a proper chippy should deliver.

But it’s not just the fish that shines here. The thick-cut chips, golden and lightly crispy, complement the tender fish beautifully. Many customers have raved about these chips, and it’s easy to see why—they offer a satisfying crunch with every bite. Alongside, the house-made tartar sauce stands out as a highlight, creamy and perfectly seasoned, enhancing the overall experience. As customer Bonnie Shook noted, it’s the “perfect complement” to the fish.

Golden Chippy doesn't stop at fish and chips; their enticing range also includes Cornish pasties, various pies, and even Jamaican patties—each dish crafted to satisfy diverse palates. For those looking for something heartier, the steak and kidney pie and chicken and mushroom pie are definite must-tries, both priced reasonably. And let’s not overlook the tempting selection of drinks and sauces that add an extra touch to your meal.

With glowing reviews from satisfied customers ringing true, it’s clear that the owner and staff prioritize not just food quality but also service. Patrons have praised the warm and attentive staff, creating an inviting environment that encourages return visits. Sal Motala’s experience perfectly encapsulated this sentiment—despite the traffic and parking challenges, the warm smiles and delicious food made it worthwhile.

So, whether you’re a local or just passing through, make Golden Chippy your destination for an unforgettable meal. With a commitment to quality and a flair for traditional chippy fare, this cozy spot is a fish lover’s paradise and a true gem of Greenwich.

Truly the best fish I’ve ever had at any chippy restaurant- the homemade tartar sauce was the perfect compliment! I’m more partial to crispy chips, but their wedges were still awesome. The owner was so kind and really made the experience one to remember.

Golden Chippy is an absolute must-visit for fish and chips lovers! The customer service here is top-notch—friendly, welcoming, and attentive, making the experience even more enjoyable. Now, let’s talk about the food—just wow! The fish (I got haddock) is perfectly battered, golden, and crispy on the outside, while the inside remains incredibly tender and flaky. The chips are thick-cut, lightly crispy on the outside, and soft inside, offering the perfect balance of texture. The fresh salad adds a refreshing touch, making the meal feel light yet satisfying. One standout is their homemade tartar sauce—it’s absolutely delicious! Creamy, tangy, and perfectly seasoned, it complements the fish beautifully, taking each bite to the next level. I had a lot of tartar sauce left over, so I decided to order the shrimp scampi, but I wasn’t impressed at all—only because they use small pieces of shrimp. It looks like they cut one whole shrimp into tiny pieces, coat them in heavy dough, and then count that as “one” shrimp. If they had used colossal shrimp, it would’ve been a game-changer. I was really let down by the shrimp. Every element on the fish and chips plate was cooked to perfection, and the flavors were spot on. If you’re looking for a fantastic fish and chips experience, Golden Chippy is the place to be. The next time I’m in the area, I’m definitely stopping by again. P.S. the curry sauce is OK! I highly recommend

Have been thinking about visiting this establishment for a while now. We were stuck in Traffic on the way there, parking not so easy. But got there we were greeted warmly with smiles placed our order they were busy with delivery orders takeaways and a few seated customers. Our food arrived and I said if it tastes as good as it looks we'll be OK. I had the Halibut which was perfectly cooked chips were fresh and their home made Tartare sauce was absolutely delicious....I almost finished the jar myself. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Needless to say we truly enjoyed the food and will undoubtedly be coming back . Thanks guys Sal

Excellent chippy in Greenwich close between Greenwich and Deptford Bridge DLR stations, and in close proximity to a lot of hotels. Decided to go for fish cakes instead of fish and loved them, very traditional style. Chips and mushy peas were nice. Prices are decent. A little extra for table service. Great chippy!

Couldn't be any more perfect! The batter on the haddock was light and tasty, nothing felt over the top unlike many other fish and chip meals. The staff and owner are all lovely, made sure everyone on our table was happy and asked if we needed anything else. Both fish and chips not too oily at all, and that helped a lot in being able to go for a long walk afterwards. Salad on the side was also really tasty, not bland and boring like other salads that are given on the side of dishes at restaurants. If you want good fish and chips without a fuss, this is the perfect place and a lovely location for it too.

Great experience. Food was of great quality and not greasy. My partner gluten free and they were able to make their cod goujans gluten free and myself large cod and chips gluten free. They explained they use the same fryer but they ensure that all oil is drained after cooking the food and they have had no complaints in 19 years. So we gave it a shot and glad we did, the food was second to none and the cod was line caught and tasted fresh and not wet. Batter was crispy and cooked spot on. Spoke to the owner IBO and he is very passionate about how the food is cooked and how customers are well looked after. They do take away and sit down but we sat down to have our meal. Highly recommend
